Habitat restoration projects
Now in its third year, WW’s habitat restoration program offers volunteers the chance to give back to nature in some of the most beautiful spots on earthI Click through for details and to sign up:
- Sat, June 22, Ashcroft — Removal of old ranching barbed wire fencing in the upper Castle Creek valley to allow wildlife to move freely.
- Sat, Aug. 3, East Maroon Creek — Rerouting of the East Maroon Trail to avoid a wetland area that’s habitat for boreal toads.
- Sat-Sun, Sept. 7-8, West Maroon Creek — Our wildly popular “Camp-out with a Cause” project returns for 2013! This year we’ll be restoring old user-created campsites above Crater Lake in areas where camping is not permitted (within 100 feet of lakes and streams); restoring them will protect water quality and improve important riparian habitat.
- Sat, Sept. 21, West Maroon Creek — Completion of the Sept. 7-8 project.
