Celebrated photojournalist David Hiser and local author and columnist Paul Andersen will team up to give a free lecture/slide show based on their popular field guide, “East of Aspen.”
The show will explore the geologic origins of Independence Pass, including the cataclysm of the Grizzly Peak Caldera, the role of glaciers in forming the landscape, the arrival of pioneers in the upper Roaring Fork Valley, and the Herculean feat of restoring ecologically disastrous road cuts.
David Hiser’s images have been published in over 100 National Geographic Society books and magazines, as well as many other major publications. He leads imaging workshops around the country and is a research associate at Digital Arts Aspen.
Paul Andersen has been a professional writer and editor for 30 years. He is a regular columnist for the Aspen Times, and has written five books about Aspen and western Colorado.
